Why I choose Public Garden as My Project

Public garden construction is not only for the beauty of city, but also improve the degree of happiness of people and reduce environmental issue. When speaking with environmental issue, a small garden can change the humidity of the surrounding air, which make a contribution to reducing urban heat. (Casandra, 2016.) There is a major effect for population: Public garden diminish the noisy of city, and provide comfort areas for people to relax their bodies. Because of this reason, sometimes people thought public garden to be a natural health care where is suitable for healing. (T. Hartig, 2006, p.36) Many people think that garden is just for beauty, and usually they don’t know that a small garden has such great effects.

Study design and hypothesis

When I decided to design the suitable areas for public garden, I considered the following factors: public area for large amount of population; using minimum cost to create the public gardens which can get better efficiency for people. First, I want choose residential areas of Vancouver zone and community centers to make overlay, but residential areas were huge. It would violate my consideration of using minimum cost to create the public garden if I choose it as the overlay process. Then, I had to change my data, so I selected commercial part of land_use. In commercial area, Population movement are very active and the numbers of population are always higher than other areas. Finally, I overlaid the commercial part and community center together, the final result would screen out suitable areas for public gardens.
